Macdonald’s RV is the oldest RV dealership in New England and has been family owned and operated since 1947. Today, Karen Macdonald proudly operates the business with the help of her daughter Nicole and many dedicated staff members.
I had the chance to sit down with Karen to discuss the history of her business and their relationship with Pinewood. There’s no doubt that Karen is a proud business owner – she lit up when describing how her grandmother had started the business (her grandfather following soon after when the business was quickly successful) and how her mom and dad had added mobile home parks and truck camper manufacturing as well. When asked about her own history with the business Karen responded with a happy sigh, “I was there helping at 6 years old, and started working with my dad full time in 1976”. Nicole, Karen’s daughter, did the same – helping out since she was a young girl. We laughed together and discussed how special it is to have a “built-in job” at a place you so love.
Karen and her group were blessed with fabulous camping weather – breezy and sunny. They gathered together for a campfire and s’mores on Friday night in West Park, breakfast at the Lodge Saturday morning, Paint Night, and a private pig roast dinner and entertainment by the Wilson Street band at the Lodge on Saturday evening. It was a joyous celebration.
When asked why she chose Pinewood to host Macdonald’s 70th anniversary celebration, Karen reminisced about visiting our campground in the 60s with her mother and father and the Holiday Rambler RV group they hosted.
Her father really loved those times, and she wanted to give him a similar experience for the company’s 70th anniversary. Unfortunately, Alvin Macdonald passed away in January 2017, just shy of the 70th anniversary. We know he would have been proud of the great group of people Karen gathered together to celebrate his hard work and the legacy of their family business.
Thank you for choosing us, Karen. We hope you enjoyed your time at Pinewood.
